Adam McMahon got his start in video games via a semi-unorthodox route: comics.
His first professional job was doing the pencils, inks, and lettering for an (unauthorized) comic biography of Honus Wagner; all at the age of 16. From there, Adam joined S&G Chromium Graphics as an inker, creating covers, trading cards, bar mirrors and signs.
After a while, Adam decided to switch industries, and joined Sony Interactive Studios of America to work on graphics for sports games. Starting with NCAA Gamebreaker, Adam has worked on such varied titles as the GameDay and MLB franchises, to EverQuest and Dark Kingdoms on the PlayStation 3.
Q: Can you describe yourself in three sentences or less?
A: Karaoke singer. Wino. World traveler.
How’s that sound?
Q: Do you win the office pool for Most Impressive Commute Ever?
A: I think I’d be a contender. I live in San Marcos, and make my way into the office every day—how’s that for dedication?
Q: Family? Kids? Picket fence?
A: Not so much with the picket fence, but I have a wonderful and brilliant wife who puts up with my crap each day. She’s frighteningly smart: she has a master’s degree in Global Business Leadership, works in finance, and is a Jeopardy whiz. It’s hard to win arguments against someone who has a memory like that.
As for kids, I like to think that our two dogs are enough of a handful. One is, well, stupid, and the other loves to destroy my backyard…but what can you do? I love ‘em both, and it wouldn’t be a family without them.
